SPELLJMMR — NJ Rock Cover Band

Our Story

We have all been friends for a long time, stretching all the way back to high school when we were in marching band together. We call Scotch Plains-Fanwood, NJ our hometown, and we were very active members of the SPF High School music department, playing in a number of the school's concert and jazz bands on top of marching band. That was our foundation for turning our passion for music into an actual skill, and we are very grateful that we were all there at the same time to meet, become friends, and continue playing music together many years after we graduated.

We have jammed together as a rock band through the years, all of us able to play instruments typical of a rock band and inspired by songs that we loved. We pulled together a couple of songs, and with a little bit of marching band work ethic applied, they came together faster than we expected. (And they were very fun to play, too!) We tried playing in front of a crowd of friends and family, and loved the experience enough that we decided to keep doing it and make a proper band together.

Before we started playing music together, we played many, many hours of Dungeons and Dragons, which is where the core inspiration for our band's energy comes from. It is a hobby where you and your friends get together and, through the power of shared storytelling, visit far-away realms and become adventurers who can take on world-ending disaster together. That is the same feeling we want to invoke with our music. We want to whisk our audience away to a far-away land where magic is real, and you can use that power as a source of community and change in the world. We discovered a long time ago that our power comes through sound. We hope that with it we can inspire you to find your own magic, and use it to make something worth gathering around.
